The recently announced ceasefire in the Gaza Strip raises hopes of peace. But the humanitarian situation remains appalling. There is a lack of food, medicine and safe accommodation. The children in particular are exhausted and in urgent need of help - their future is at stake.
Around 90 percent of people in Gaza are currently displaced. They are living in inhumane conditions in completely overcrowded emergency shelters. Many are unable to return as their homes have been razed to the ground. Only comprehensive, sustainable support can help them to rebuild their destroyed livelihoods and make a fresh start.
The devastating effects of the conflict are hard to comprehend: More than 17,000 children have lost their lives since the violence began. Tens of thousands have been injured, countless children have lost their father, mother or both parents. Almost all of them are severely traumatized. Psychological help is essential to deal with the pain and give them hope for a safe future.
For children and families on both sides of the conflict
SOS Children's Villages has always stood by the side of the most vulnerable - regardless of origin, religion or ethnicity. The organization has been supporting particularly vulnerable children in both Israel and Palestine for many years. In the midst of the current crisis, this vital aid is being stepped up further in order to help the affected families quickly and sustainably.
