Stomping for peace

Wars around the world affect us all, including children in Liechtenstein. It is high time to listen to the voices of these children. For this reason, SOS Children's Villages is organising the ‘Stomping for Peace’ campaign, in which over 40 SOS Children's Villages country associations worldwide are taking part.

Stomp along on Children's Rights Day!

Be part of it! Because - the ground should tremble - not because of bombs, but because of many, many children stomping and thus standing up for children's rights in conflict zones.

WHEN: on Wednesday, 20th November 2024

How does it work? It's simple: go outside with your class - or the whole school - on 20th November and stomp for peace for 5 minutes. Stomp to a song or make up your own good rhythm. Everything is allowed!

Interested? Register and get more information at maike.hilti@sos-kinderdorf.li.

Shoot a video of your action!

Use your mobile phone to film the children's stomping feet, their peace posters and other actions or take photos of them.
Share the video footage and photos on social media and tag #soskinderdorfliechtenstein and #StompingForPeace in your post!

You don't have a platform to draw attention to your action? Then send us your film material so that we can publish it. For more information maike.hilti@sos-kinderdorf.li.

Because together we can achieve more - the more people who stand up for peace, the more likely we are to be heard.

Stomping is not enough for you?

You want to actively work to improve the situation of children in war zones?

Wonderful! With small actions we can also help here, far away from the war zones. Do you already have precise ideas about what you want to do or do you still need some?

You can raise money for an emergency aid programme for war-affected children with a peace run or a cake sale for a good cause. You can attract attention with a creative peace dance or peace song, a peace exhibition of your self-made works of art to match the theme or a building wrapped in peace posters and send a strong signal in favour of peace and the protection of children's rights in crisis areas.

Interested? We would be delighted if you could share your great campaigns with us and will be happy to advise you. For further information contact maike.hilti@sos-kinderdorf.li.

Why stomp for peace?

This year, the Convention on the Rights of the Child celebrates its 35th anniversary on 20 November, but unfortunately there is no reason to celebrate. According to the Convention on the Rights of the Child, every child has the right to care and protection. However, millions of children worldwide are victims of armed conflict and their rights are violated on a large scale. According to UNICEF, 43.3 million children are on the run due to war, persecution, violence and human rights violations.

In countries where there is no war, children are confronted with the consequences and violence on a daily basis. This is also the case in Liechtenstein. The images that children see through friends, social media or television make a big impression. And they often evoke intense feelings such as fear, anger and sadness.

Our national short film, the international films and information about other campaigns carried out and planned by schools, associations and private individuals will be presented to the public and our government on Children's Rights Day. The joint film of the 40 SOS country associations will also be presented to the United Nations on Children's Rights Day.

In this way, we call on governments worldwide to do everything in their power to end the suffering of children in armed conflicts and to guarantee their rights. In line with the Convention on the Rights of the Child.

Children's rights workshop

Children and young people have special rights. These rights are set out in the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child - from the right to education to the right to protection from violence and the right to health.

Recognising and living children's rights is an important part of our work. To ensure that children's rights do not just exist on paper, SOS Children's Villages worldwide is committed to ensuring that everyone is aware of children's rights and is committed to upholding them - inside and outside SOS Children's Villages, from children and young people to parents, educators and politicians.
We are happy to familiarise your pupils with children's rights. We use precise examples to explain which rights children have.

The children also learn more about the work of SOS Children's Villages and what we do to promote children's rights worldwide. They will gain an insight into our projects to strengthen children's rights.
