Stomping for peace

Wars around the world affect us all, including children in Liechtenstein. It is high time to listen to the voices of these children. For this reason, SOS Children's Villages is organising the ‘Stomping for Peace’ campaign, in which almost 40 SOS Children's Villages country associations around the world are taking part.

Children are being deprived of their rights in more and more countries, intensified by the crisis regions around the world. Together with schools and children around the world, the ‘Stomping for Peace’ campaign was launched. The aim of the campaign is to give children a voice so that they can actively demand peace and stand up for the rights of children in war zones.

SOS Children's Villages Liechtenstein is also part of the global campaign of 38 SOS Children's Villages associations and has made a touching short film with four Liechtenstein schools as part of the campaign. It is a film made by manyof committed children and young people: by children for children, for peace, for the protection of children's rights in conflict zones, for equal opportunities for all children.

Action on Children's Rights Day

Parts from the short video by formatio Triesen, Liechtenstein High school Vaduz, Primary School Mauren and Secondary school Balzers were also used in the international campaign video, which was presented on November 19, 2024 at an UN event in New York and on November 20, 2024 in Liechtenstein to the Member of Government Dominique Hasler. The campaign calls on governments worldwide to do everything in their power to end the suffering of children in armed conflicts and guarantee their rights.

"Stop fighting, we want peace" is the clear message that children from all over the world are sending to leading politicians. This applies to children in countries where there is an armed conflict, in countries affected by a nearby conflict, after a conflict and wherever news about violence in armed conflicts affects their daily lives.

On Children's Rights Day, 7 school locations in Liechtenstein and many kids around the world once again sent out a strong signal by stomping their feet against violating of children's rights to care and protection.

Because together we can achieve more - the more people who stand up for peace, the more likely we are to be heard.

Stomping is not enough for you?

You want to actively work to improve the situation of children in war zones?

Wonderful! With small actions we can also help here, far away from the war zones. Do you already have precise ideas about what you want to do or do you still need some?

You can raise money for an emergency aid programme for war-affected children with a peace run or a cake sale for a good cause. You can attract attention with a creative peace dance or peace song, a peace exhibition of your self-made works of art to match the theme or a building wrapped in peace posters and send a strong signal in favour of peace and the protection of children's rights in crisis areas.

Interested? We would be delighted if you could share your great campaigns with us and will be happy to advise you. For further information contact maike.hilti@sos-kinderdorf.li.

Why stomp for peace?

In 2024, the Convention on the Rights of the Child celebrates its 35th anniversary on 20 November, but unfortunately there is no reason to celebrate. According to the Convention on the Rights of the Child, every child has the right to care and protection. However, millions of children worldwide are victims of armed conflict and their rights are violated on a large scale. According to UNICEF, 43.3 million children are on the run due to war, persecution, violence and human rights violations.

With our campaign, we call on governments worldwide to do everything in their power to end the suffering of children in armed conflicts and to guarantee their rights. In line with the Convention on the Rights of the Child.

Children's rights workshop

Children and young people have special rights. These rights are set out in the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child - from the right to education to the right to protection from violence and the right to health.

Recognising and living children's rights is an important part of our work. To ensure that children's rights do not just exist on paper, SOS Children's Villages worldwide is committed to ensuring that everyone is aware of children's rights and is committed to upholding them - inside and outside SOS Children's Villages, from children and young people to parents, educators and politicians.
We are happy to familiarise your pupils with children's rights. We use precise examples to explain which rights children have.

The children also learn more about the work of SOS Children's Villages and what we do to promote children's rights worldwide. They will gain an insight into our projects to strengthen children's rights.
